Caroline has been a board member since 2020 and currently lives in Cocagne with her husband and three daughters. Her youngest was born in 2015 and happens to rock an extra chromosome! While Caroline is a stay-at-home mom and entrepreneur, she helps to manage a local online retail business and has a background in accounting.
Jonathan joined the Board in 2016.He is presently the only member born with Down syndrome. He has displayed strong motivation and commitment to work, sports, and volunteering in the community. He is employed by Sobeys and Moncton Pallet, a division of METS. He volunteers with the Moncton Wildcats Organization.
Jonathan is an accomplished swimmer who has represented Canada at 4 World Down Syndrome Swimming Championships. He is also active with Special Olympics New Brunswick competing in both swimming and speed skating at the National level. He also works out twice a week with a personal cross fit trainer.
Shirley joined the Board in 2016. She is a retired Registered Nurse who was employed in Health Care for almost 45 years. Her career was very diverse including Paediatrics, 15 years as a Nursing Officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Geriatrics and Hospice. She is also the proud parent of an amazing young man who was born with Down syndrome as well as a daughter and two grand-kids.
Ben Vuillemot, a GMDSS Board Member since 2016, a dedicated father and a passionate advocate.
Residing in the picturesque town of Shediac, New Brunswick, Ben is a proud father of four children, who's life took a profound turn when his second youngest child was born with Down Syndrome. This pivotal moment ignited a fire within him to not only embrace the unique joys of parenting a child with an extra chromosome but also to champion awareness and inclusion within his community.
With a background in IT, specializing in Business Analysis, Ben brings a strategic mindset and technical expertise to his advocacy work.
Ben's commitment to making an impact extends beyond his family and professional life. He was a driving force behind the "Opportunity Knocks" fundraiser, where he collaborated with fellow board members to raise funds and amplify the voices of individuals with Down Syndrome. Ben wants to show the world the immeasurable joy and potential that comes from embracing diversity.
